Radio stations use text messaging for listener interaction

EVANSTON, Ill.-Mobile marketing company Vibes Media released its new iRadio product, which the company said allows radio stations to conduct interactive polls and campaigns using text messaging. The company said radio station KTTB/B96 in Minneapolis launched the iRadio platform this summer and uses it to tally song requests and interact with listeners.

“I love the live nature of the interaction with my listeners,” said Tone E. Fly, a DJ at B/96 in Minneapolis. “Vibes’ iRadio platform allows me to read incoming messages from listeners in real time and choose who I want give a shout-out to on-air. I can even send my own personal messages right back to people.”

Vibes Media is one of several wireless marketing companies offering platforms for interactive text messaging services. M-Qube, Enpocket, Telenor Mobile and a variety of others offer similar services. Text messaging interconnection agreements and the recent launch of common short codes served as the impetus for many such offerings.
