Motorola to supply UMTS gear in Portugal

PORTO, Portugal-Motorola Inc. said it has won a three-year contract to supply Portuguese mobile operator Optimus with third-generation UMTS infrastructure equipment for the northern part of the country.

Motorola said it won the contract after a four-month trial.

“Motorola has been selected as our 3G supplier for several reasons,” said Pinto Correia, chief technical officer of the carrier. “One being its ability to integrate easily with other networks . Secondly, Motorola demonstrated a very high quality of service, which is critical for our customers.”

The dollar amount was not revealed. The vendor signed a $1.1 billion dollar infrastructure deal in China a week ago.
