TOKYO-Toshiba Corp. released a prototype of a compact, direct methanol fuel cell that could be used as an alternative power source to recharge batteries for personal devices like cell phones, digital cameras, personal digital assistants and mobile TVs.
Toshiba plans to commercialize DMFC for handheld devices and portable PCs in 2005.
