Celtel Uganda to increase coverage to 38 more towns

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa-Ugandan mobile network operator Celtel announced the company intends to increase its coverage to include 38 more towns on its network by March 2003.

Richard Mugera, marketing and communications assistant at Celtel, said the company hopes to boost its network capacity and coverage to gain more subscribers.

Mugera said that in addition to the expansion and capacity enhancements the company has increased its retail distribution by opening 480 additional retail points.

Mugera said: “The expansion will enable us get more people on board, and through the connection, many people will be able to talk.”

Jackie Namara, the marketing manager of Celtel, said that in addition to the capacity enhancements, the network would be more customer responsive by changing to meet the needs of the subscribers.

“We are now going to be customer driven. We will look at the introduction of new value-added products and services,” Namara said.
