Thai Mobile appoints marketing alliances

NEW DELHI, India-Thai Mobile, the joint venture between the Telephone Organization of Thailand (TOT) and the Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT) formed to operate a 1900 MHz mobile-phone system, has signed Samart E-trading and International Engineering Company (IEC) for marketing, billing and customer services.

The two marketing companies are targeting 25 percent of the mobile-phone market, their officials were quoted as saying in an industry journal. Samart President Thavatchai Vilailuck said the two companies will install all the necessary systems by October.

IEC and Samart will use separate channels to distribute 1900 MHz handsets to users. IEC will market the handsets through its outlets called Mobile Easy Shop and franchisees, while Samart will implement marketing campaigns through its I-Mobile shops.

The two will sell different brands of handsets. Samart will focus on Samsung and Sony Ericsson units, while IEC will sell mainly Nokia and LG handsets.
