RCC gets ETC status in Washington

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-RCC Holdings Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Rural Cellular Corp., has been designated an Eligible Telecommunications Carrier in the state of Washington by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission.

“This designation of RCC as an ETC represents real progress in helping to bring the benefits of competition to rural America and will put us on a more equal footing with landline companies,” said Richard Ekstrand, president and chief executive officer of RCC. “ETC status means we will have an additional revenue source, enabling us to more quickly build a quality network in rural areas often overlooked.”

RCC, which also has ETC applications pending in Alabama and Maine, said it expects to file applications in several more states by the end of the year.
