Chip associations say market continues to grow

LONDON—Although global computer chip sales are down sharply form a year ago, year-on-year comparisons are improving, according to World Semiconductor Trade Statistics, commenting on numbers recently released by the European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA) and the European Electronic component Manufacturers’ Association (EECA).

For example, although this February’s sales were 35.3 percent lower than last February’s, January 2002 sales were 39.8 percent lower than January 2001’s and December 2001 sales were down 43.1 percent from December 2000. The numbers also point to rising sales in the Americas and Asia and slightly declining sales in Europe and Japan, compared with a month ago.
