Sogo Keibi Hosho launches home security service using mobile phones

TOKYO—Sogo Keibi Hosho, a leading security business in Japan, launched a new home security service using mobile phones. Users of the service, called Rusu Mate, can be alerted about an intruder in their homes and watch still pictures of their houses on their mobile phones.

The Rusu Mate system consists of a crime-preventing detecting sensor, a camera and a radio transmitter. When the sensor detects an intruder while a user is out of the house, the camera automatically takes a picture of the house and sends an e-mail with the still picture to the end user’s mobile phone. Then the end user can check the inside of the house on the handset screen. As an optional service, Sogo Keibi Hosho will send a security staff member to the end user’s house.

The system is selling at 39,800 yen (US$300) per unit. The initial fee of 2,000 yen (US$12) is charged separately.
