BUCHAREST, Romania—Last week the Slovakian Minister of Economy approved a tender proposal for new GSM and UMTS licenses. The Slovakian government has set a minimum price of EUR23.1 million (US$21 million) on the three-band license. The government hopes the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) licenses and price will be of interest to the bidders, especially the mobile operators Eurotel and Globtel.
The officials hope to receive decisive bids the first time, making a second tender unnecessary.
The tender for GSM and UMTS licenses will be held during the first half of 2002.
