BUENOS AIRES, Argentina—A year after initiating its operations outside the Buenos Aires metropolitan area (AMBA), Movicom BellSouth announced it has 200,000 new users in 10 cities of Argentina. Using its personal communications services (PCS) at 1900 MHz, the carrier is providing value-added services, such as mobile Internet and short message service (SMS).
One of the main tools used to attract new clients is the City Plan, whereby Movicom BellSouth offers a reduced tariff for calls made within the same city.
Movicom BellSouth was the first cellular operator in Argentina to begin offering its services in 1989 within the AMBA. In the 1999 PCS auction, it secured licenses to offer its services nationwide.
