Motorola wins GSM contracts in China

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc. has signed two contracts totalling $102 million to deploy GSM systems to the Chinese provinces of Sichuan and Fujian.

The agreements, which are between Motorola’s Global Telecom Solutions Sector and China Mobile, call for Motorola to deliver cellular services to three major cities in Sichuan Province based on the GSM 1800 network with a potential to cover up 531,160 subscribers on completion.

The GSM900 dual-band network, which Motorola will build in Fujian Province, is expected to increase its capacity from 580,000 to 1.31 million on completion in the fourth quarter of next year.
