PALO ALTO, Calif.-AltaVista Shopping.com introduced AltaVista Shopping Everywhere, a new Internet source for wireless and handheld devices and applications.
The site features wireless applications that allow users of Web-enabled phones and Palm Inc. and Microsoft Corp. Pocket PC handheld devices to access AltaVista Shopping.com’s comparison shopping guide.
Palm and Pocket PC device users can download the site from their personal computer, and Web-enabled phone users can type in a special site address. The company said it is working with device manufacturers to eventually establish the AltaVista Shopping.com Web site as a standard option on the device’s home page.
AltaVista Shopping Everywhere features a collection of content, software, hardware and accessories for handheld devices from Handango, including more than 8,500 downloadable wireless and personal digital assistant applications.
The site also includes a “New Users Forum,” that includes tips for first-time buyers of wireless products, a glossary of common wireless terminology and links to discussion groups on the latest wireless devices. AltaVista Shopping.com said the AltaVista Shopping Everywhere site soon will support products using the Symbian platform as well.
