Western Wireless improves net loss

BELLEVUE, Wash.-Western Wireless Corp. reported its financial and operating results for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31.

Company revenues increased to $157.9 million during the quarter from $116.2 million during the fourth quarter of 1998. For the year, total revenue increased from $416.6 million in 1998 to $567.3 million last year.

Western Wireless also announced it cut its net loss from $57.2 million in the fourth quarter of 1998 to $783,000 in 1999, with net loss per share dropping from 76 cents per share to 1 cent per share.

For the year, the company reported a net loss of $148.8 million, or $1.94 per share, compared with a net loss of $224.1 million, or $2.95 per share, during 1998.
