GTE LINKS DIGITAL PHONES TO E-MAIL AND INTERNET

ATLANTA-GTE Wireless demonstrated at its Technology Solutions Center in Tampa, Fla., services that will connect people to e-mail, Web browsing, calendar and contact information using digital phones linked to laptops, browser-equipped phones or personal digital assistants.

“Workers want mobility. No one wants to be chained to the office anymore. By the middle of next year, we expect every phone we ship will be able to access the Web,” said Rob Keller, director of business marketing for GTE Wireless.

GTE said it expects to introduce services this fall in 26 cities, including Honolulu, Houston, Nashville, Tenn., and Seattle, among others.
