AT&T TO EXTEND BRAND TO LA CELLULAR

KIRKLAND, Wash.-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. said it plans to brand the AT&T name in Los Angeles by next year.

The company recently gained management control of Los Angeles Cellular under an agreement with BellSouth Cellular Corp. to consolidate ownership of their jointly owned cellular properties in Los Angeles, Houston and Galveston, Texas. AT&T said the companies created a new management structure that will streamline operations.

The agreement calls for BellSouth and AT&T to fold the existing ownership interests in LA Cellular, Houston Cellular and Galveston Cellular into a single company that will continue to own, control and supervise all three properties. AT&T will manage LA Cellular while BellSouth will manage the other two. Speculation is AT&T will offer its Digital One Rate plan next year in Los Angeles as well. The rate plan eliminates long-distance and roaming fees.
