Qualcomm Inc. announced its shipment of samples for its fifth-generation chipset, including the MSM3000 single-chip Mobile Station Modem and the IFT3000 and IFR3000 fully integrated Intermediate Frequency chipset. The new low-power chipset and software solution enables design of small form-factor handsets with very long standby times and support for much higher data-rate services. The MSM3000 features data rates up to 86.4 kbps, a new microprocessor architecture, enhanced sleep controller and several other new features. The high data rates will be supported by Interim Standard-95B compliant infrastructure and enable effective use of handsets for a new breed of Internet applications with fast packet switched access to databases, e-mail and web browsing, said Qualcomm. Global Access Pagers
Global Access Pagers Inc. announced its board of directors plans to introduce a pen-based personal digital assistant this fall that supports Motorola Inc.’s FLEX messaging protocol. The company hopes the Air Track Compose PDA will allow users to access the Internet at all times from the device via FLEX networks. Motorola Inc.
Motorola Inc. integrated voice record and playback chips from Information Storage Devices Inc. into its new cd900 family of dual-band Global System for Mobile communications phones. Motorola’s cd920 and cd930-now available in selected countries-contain the VoiceNote memo recorder, which provides up to three minutes of message recording for storing memos or recording phone calls, said ISD. Northern Telecom
Northern Telecom Inc. said it publicly demonstrated that high-speed delivery of data over wireless networks can be accomplished using existing cdmaOne networks. Nortel, along with wireless operator Bell Mobility, a Mobility Canada member company, demonstrated a high-speed circuit-switched Internet access at speeds up to 57.6 kilobits per second over Bell Mobility’s commercial cdmaOne network from a terminal at the Comdex technology exposition in Toronto, July 8-10. Until now, no cdmaOne infrastructure vendor has publicly displayed data delivery over Interim Standard 95 networks at speeds higher than 14.4 kbps, said Nortel. (800) 4-NORTEL.

Decibel Products
Allen Telecom Inc.’s Decibel Products company introduced the PCS dBDiamond antenna, which it said is the smallest indoor antenna on the market. The DB791SD5S-M antenna is smaller than the average computer mouse, measuring 1.65 inches wide by 3.5 inches in length and 1.6 inches in height, said Decibel Products. The antenna weighs less than 2.5 ounces. The PCS dBDiamond covers a personal communications services frequency range of 1850 MHz to 1990 MHz, with a gain of 2.0 dBd (4.1 dBi) and a front-to-back ratio of 14.5 dB average. It also is available in the Digital Cellular System frequency range of 1710 MHz to 1880 MHz, said Decibel Products. The antenna provides horizontal beamwidth of 129 degrees and a vertical beamwidth of 75 degrees, and is best suited for large rooms, extended open spaces and locations with high ceilings, said the company.
