QUALCOMM DEMOS NEW CDMA PHONES

SAN FRANCISCO-A Code Division Multiple Access digital/analog dual-mode, dual-band telephone has been introduced by Qualcomm Inc., along with two other new CDMA portable phones in its QCP series.

The manufacturer expects the three phones will be commercially available this summer: the QCP-2700 800 MHz MHz dual-band model, the QCP-820 800 MHz digital/analog dual-mode phone, and the QCP-1920 1900 MHz personal communications services phone.

All of the new QCP phones come equipped with a dial shuttle, allowing users to quickly and easily operate the phone with a single touch, said Qualcomm. A new user interface provides simple, rapid access to a host of phone features, the company added.

Qualcomm also demonstrated its range of CDMA-based wireless Internet connectivity solutions at the Cellular Telecommunication Industry Association’s Wireless ’97 exhibit and convention. The company’s demonstrations included implementation of the CDMA packet data standard Interim Standard 657.
