Celcore Inc. introduced a Global System for Mobile communications system, designed specifically for emerging markets around the world-at the GSM World Congress in Cannes, France. The system is built around a compact GlobalSwitch, which integrates the functions of the mobile switching center, base station controller, home location register, visitor location register and authentication center. This eliminates the need for separate subsystem components and allows the switching function to be deployed locally.
Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group said its new modular scaleable Operations and Maintenance Center is designed to minimize operators’ initial investment and allow upgrades to support incremental capacity increases on Global System for Mobile communications 900 and Digital Communications Services 1800 cellular networks. Because the OMC is scaleable, it allows network operators to add operations and maintenance capability when and where required, said Motorola. The announcement was made at the GSM World Congress in Cannes, France.
Texas Instruments Inc. and Huawei Technology Co. Ltd have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a digital signal processing solutions cooperative laboratory in Huawei’s Shenzhen, China, facility. The lab will be run by Huawei to develop world class telecommunications products including wireless local loop systems.
Phoenix Wireless Group Inc. announced at the GSM World Congress it has added full Global System for Mobile communications capability to its Phoenician integrated telecommunications platform. The Phoenician system complies with the GSM Phase II specification and includes support for full-rate and half-rate voice coding and frequency hopping, the company said. “The addition of the GSM air protocol is a natural extension of our product development and digital migration plans,” said Tom Yang, director of marketing and product management for Phoenix Wireless.
Spectrian Corp. agreed to supply power amplifiers to LG Information and Communications Ltd. of South Korea. The amplifiers will be used for cellular, personal communications and wireless local loop networks in South Korea and around the world, the companies said. According to the agreement, Spectrian will transfer technology on selected products and will train the South Korean company’s manufacturing personnel in order to meet rules of the South Korean government.
Kenan Systems Corp. announced that Siris, the French partner of AT&T-Unisource, has chosen its Arbor/BP product to bill for its national and international voice, data and value-added services aimed at corporate customers. Arbor/BP is a UNIX-based billing and customer care solution. The product has been licensed by a number of Fortune 1000 and other communications and information services companies, said Kenan.
