SAN JOSE, Calif.-IBM Corp. announced the availability of software that allows access to World Wide Web and Internet applications using wireless radio frequency networks and cellular technology.
The ARTour Web Express software reduces connect time and network charges by decreasing Web data traffic. The company said users can continue to work on browser tasks while Web requests are processed in the background.
In addition, frequently accessed Web pages can be stored locally for off-line access.
ARTour runs on Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or OS/2. The company recently added enhancements to the software including translations to 11 languages. The software supports Ardis DataTac, RAM Mobile Data Mobitex RF, Global System for Mobile communications, personal communications services and Motorola Inc. Private Mobile Radio networks.
“With ARTour, IBM’s customers can view wireless connectivity as an extension to their enterprise network,” said James Neiser, vice president of marketing for IBM’s Networking Software Group. “ARTour provides the kind of robust solution corporate users depend on, along with extensive security features and ease of use.”
“There are unlimited opportunities not only for the Web but for affordable industry-specific solutions such as public safety and field service,” he added.
