MOTOROLA DROPS MARCO AND ENVOY

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s Wireless Data Group is phasing out its Marco and Envoy personal digital assistants by the end of the year, said Cheryl Beck-Ruff, public relations manager.

However, the Wireless Data Group will continue producing its Personal Messenger wireless modem card, which supports PDAs, handheld computers and laptops.

In the United States, Personal Messenger is available in two versions, to support Ardis and Cellular Digital Packet Data networks. The product, which is a PC card, also is sold in the Asia-Pacific market, said Beck-Ruff.

A month ago, one Motorola agent told RCR Marco and Envoy had been discontinued, but the Wireless Data Group would not confirm plans. Only recently, Motorola made the news public.
