900 MHZ LICENSES PUT ON HOLD BY FCC

WASHINGTON-The Federal Communications Communications has halted 900 MHz private wireless licensing in a move that the industry suspects could lead to auctions, according to sources.

A representative in the FCC’s licensing division in Gettysburg, Pa., said the agency was “reevaluating its processes and realigning resources to different priorities.” She said she wasn’t aware if the changes were in preparation for private wireless auctions, which aren’t allowed under current law but could be authorized in next year’s budget.
