Don Smith is the new director of wireless technology and network operations for specialized mobile radio carrier ComTec International Inc. Prior to joining the company, Smith was director of network operations for OneComm Corp. (now part of Nextel Communications Inc.) where he oversaw the SMR network’s expansion from one state to 17 states. In his new position, he will oversee the construction, operations and management of ComTec’s wireless licenses, and he will head the engineering and network operations teams.

SCC Communications Corp. appointed George E. Schulze vice president of its National Data Services Center division. Previously, Schulze was business unit manager for Tandem Computer Inc.’s telecommunications division. While at Tandem, he held several sales management positions and was responsible for sales of solutions and Tandem’s fault-tolerant computers to wireline and wireless telecommunications carriers.

Allen Telecom Canada, a division of Allen Telecom Group Inc., named Gary Spedaliere sales engineer. His 23 years of experience in sales, engineering and product development include positions as engineering manager for Midland International Corp. and vice president of engineering for Sinclair Radio Laboratories. He also held positions with Philips Electronics Ltd.’s mobile radio and electronics display divisions and with Tectrol Inc.

Christian Sarrazin was appointed managing director for the new Asian Regional Center of Harris Corp.’s Farinon Division in Kuala Lumpur. Sarrazin will be responsible for the Farinon Division’s business activities in the region and he will assume administrative responsibility for other Harris divisions located in the new center. Sarrazin’s career includes positions with Teleglobe Inc., the Canadian Commercial Corp. and the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Allan Toomer was named president of Tekelec and elected to the board of directors. Toomer also will continue in his former position as Tekelec’s senior vice president and general manager of the network switching division. He replaces Philip J. Alford, who recently resigned from those posts. Alford also will resign the position of chief executive officer Dec. 31. Toomer joined the company in 1992.

The NLS Group promoted Carl Gehring to telecommunications manager for the company’s corporate headquarters in East Providence, R.I. His responsibilities will include overseeing the zoning and permitting department and operational involvement in daily activities of the company. Prior to joining The NLS Group one year ago, Gehring worked in the commercial real estate field, gaining experience in valuation, acquisitions, property management and zoning/permitting. He is a member of both the Connecticut and American Bar Associations and the International Right of Way Association.

PriCellular Corp. named Joseph Gregori president of its wholly owned cellular reselling subsidiary. Gregori most recently was president of Nationwide Cellular Services Inc. and MCI Wireless Inc. Gregori will have responsibility for the company’s cellular resale business, which PriCellular said will be in markets adjacent to its own clusters.

Edward C. Callahan Jr. has resigned as president, chief operating officer and director of Summa Four Inc. Barry R. Gorsun, chairman and chief executive officer, will assume the duties of president.
