GTE AIRFONE EQUIPS AIRFRANCE AIRLINES

SHANNON, Ireland-GTE Airfone Inc. is supplying JetPhone, a provider of airline passenger telephony services, with cabin equipment and handsets to be used on Air France flights, announced JetPhone of Shannon, Ireland.

JetPhone, which is a joint venture of British Telecommunications plc and France Telecom, received contracts from Air France and Air France Europe (formerly Air International) to supply its Terrestrial Flight Telecommunications System. The TFTS units will use GTE Airfone’s MACH I handset, which is designed specifically for the European market, said JetPhone.

By next March, the on-board phone service will be installed on Air France’s fleets of 1996 aircraft making short- and medium-haul European flights, said JetPhone.
