GTE AND IBM ANNOUNCE BETTER BILLING INFORMATION

ATLANTA-GTE Telecommunications Services and IBM Corp. have introduced a service for managing usage and billing information generated by cellular roaming users.

The number of roamers has grown, said GTE, and so it has become increasingly difficult to track usage and manage the distribution of operator revenues.

The new service, which is a modification on GTE’s current Access Settlement and Exchange Services, will allow operators of Global System for Mobile communications systems to electronically access current information on their subscribers’ roaming activity and manage financial settlement and exchange activity faster and more efficiently, said GTE.

Further, by providing detailed usage reports, the service will help GSM operators identify fraudulent activity, noted GTE.

GTE and IBM will jointly market and support the service. GSM operators in Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa can use the IBM Global Network’s electronic data interchange service to exchange roaming user data, GTE said.
