KOREA’S CELLULAR NETWORK TO USE AT&T EQUIPMENT

SEOUL, South Korea-Under a contract valued at $540 million, AT&T Corp. said it plans to supply Korea Mobile Telecom with wireless infrastructure equipment for KMT’s nationwide cellular network.

Terms of the multiyear agreement call for AT&T Network Systems to install its Autoplex wireless communications infrastructure equipment. Autoplex supports Advanced Mobile Phone Service, Code Division Multiple Access and Time Division Multiple Access technologies.

AT&T said it has installed Autoplex in several other countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region including China.

KMT currently is Korea’s sole cellular service provider, serving 1.4 million subscribers on its network, which AT&T calls one of the largest in the world. KMT also provides paging services, carrying 4.4 million subscribers, reported AT&T.
