L.M. Ericsson introduced the Prism HP portable, which the company says is its smallest, lightest and most sophisticated high specification radio. It is designed to meet worldwide user requirements and can be programmed to work on both Enhanced Digital Access Communications Systems trunked or conventional radio systems using custom designed integrated circuits and programmable memory. Motorola Inc. and Multiplier Industries Corp. have settled a patent dispute, and the agreement allows Mount Kisco, N.Y.-based Multiplier to offer its Sure-Grip finish on battery products for selected Motorola two-way radios and cellular phones. PageTap Inc. of Denver introduced its Interrupt Service Device, a remote control system with a two-way switch that allows power companies to interrupt electric service to commercial customers in a demand side load management program, switch capacitor banks on distribution lines, monitor valves and alarms in oil and gas pipelines, and control electronic billboard road signs. ISD uses existing radio paging systems to send digital, alphanumeric pages to receive remote control commands. It is installed at the utility customer’s electric service entrance. ISD responds to all commands received by sending acknowledgement to the host computer via a packet radio modem connected to any radio transceiver.
