How do signal boosters fit into the hetnet ecosystem?
Bringing cellular connectivity inside is a challenge. Solutions range from small cells to Wi-Fi to distributed antenna systems (DAS). But how do signal boosters fit into the hetnet equation?
On this episode of HetNet Happenings, host Sean Kinney, the managing editor at RCR Wireless News, is joined by Nextivity CEO Werner Sievers and Nextivity CTO Michiel Lotter to learn more about the company’s Cel-Fi portfolio of smart signal boosters, as well as how signal boosters can significantly reduce operational expense associated with in-building wireless deployments.
“Operators ship these to residential and enterprise applications,” Sievers said. “We currently ship to 12 of the top 20 operators in the world. It gives one a sense of subscriber base, the magnitude of subscriber base, the status of the operator and the fact that they consider smart signal boosters to be an important element in their overall sort of hetnet current and future offering.”
Sievers explained that Cel-Fi products provide a “carrier-grade caliber of product…meaning that we’re always safe as a contributor to any coverage solution irrespective of how complex it may be.”
He continued: “In our context, a hetnet really is wireless specific…with severely complex interoperability or interrelationship between various elements in the network,” including macro, small cell, DAS, Wi-Fi and smart signal boosters. “Obviously the operators that provide the best user quality of experience are any of those that have the most, or the richest, profile or toolbox as far as hetnet offerings or elements is concerned.”
Lotter explained that the company’s products are easy to use by any customer, consumer or enterprise.
“The key aspect here is the processor that we developed. The LTE products that we are shipping today is actually based on a third generation of our processor…doing a huge amount of calculations in real time to ensure that, it doesn’t matter what the end user does, this system will always operate harmoniously with the network.”
