NEW DELHI, India-The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has recommended the induction of two more mobile service providers.
According to a report in the Financial Express newspaper, a proposal in this regard has been sent to the government, and a decision is expected soon. The regulator has also called for a review of spectrum management for optimum use of the wireless frequencies.
Bangladesh has nearly 1 million mobile-phone subscribers, and 90 percent of them are GSM users. There are three GSM operators-GrameenPhone, Telecom Malaysia International Bangladesh (TMIB) and Sheba Telecom.
