AirPrime releases CDMA wireless PC cards

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—AirPrime Inc. introduced its family of CDMA wireless personal computer cards using the cdma2000 1x and 1xEV-DO wireless standards.

The PC3200 series card uses the 1x standard providing data throughput of up to 153.6 kilobits per second, while the PC5200 series uses 1xEV-DO at speeds up to 2.4 megabits per second. AirPrime said the cards support global frequency bands at 800 MHz, 1800 MHz and 1900 MHz.

Both series are designed as standard Type II PCMCIA cards and are compatible with Microsoft Corp.’s operating systems and include an antenna design that the company said maximized network coverage, data transfer speed and battery life of notebook computers.

AirPrime said it will begin providing both card series to carrier customers during the second quarter.
