Cell Tower News: Tornado destroys legendary KOMA tower

Tornado severely damages KOMA tower

It may not be a cell tower, but the legendary KOMA communications towers looms large in the minds of those in the industry. A tornado wreaked havoc last last month on the Oklahoma-located KOMA tower, causing massive structural damage. Engineers investigated the situation and decided that it was too dangerous to climb in order to repair and earlier this month was severed and allowed to hit the ground. Since 1947, the KOMA towers carried a 50,000 watt signal to 23 states and five continents. Watch the incredible drone footage surveying the damage below.

Sacramento Fire Dept. practice tower rescue

The Sacramento Fire Department posted footage on their Facebook page of practicing a 100-foot rescue from a tower. Two people pretended to be stuck at the top of tower as the fire department stepped in to lend a hand. This tower is not live and is used solely for training purposes. The video is uploaded to Facebook so sorry, no embed here. But it’s an entertaining video and worth a watch. Let’s just hope it’s not ever a protester, because this one commenter probably shares many people’s feelings:
