Consumers expect impact from wireless next year

SEATTLE-Nearly half of U.S. consumers said they expect wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Internet-capable personal digital assistants, to have the greatest impact on their lifestyle in the coming year, according to the December poll by Global Market Insite.

In addition, 37 percent of respondents said mobile devices would have an impact on their lifestyle. Home entertainment equipment, and home and office productivity software followed with 35 percent and 26 percent respectively.

The poll, which surveyed 17,500 consumers worldwide, found similar results in 17 other countries. Wireless technology ranked the highest in all 18 countries included in the survey, with especially high marks in Malaysia, India, Mexico, Brazil and China. Mobile devices ranked second in 15 of the 18 countries. Consumers in Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom ranked home entertainment equipment above mobile devices.
