Sprint to replace key executives

Sprint is replacing two of its top executives, as the nation’s third largest carrier adjusts to new ownership by Softbank and increased competition from T-Mobile US.

Chief marketing officer Bill Malloy will retire within the next six months and chief sales officer Paget Alves has already left the company.

Three people are expected to share the responsibilities formerly held by Alves. Dow Draper, formerly of Clearwire (which Sprint acquired), will head up prepaid sales at Sprint. Sprint’s prepaid brands include Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile. Matt Carter will become president of enterprise solutions at Sprint. Carter was previously president of emerging and global wholesale solutions. And former chief service officer Bob Johnson will head up retail sales and store operations.

“In all honesty I think the move for Sprint in leveling that out is good – very good – for the company,” said former Sprint executive Jim Patterson. “It’s a great move for Sprint and is emblematic of their deep management team. They should be able to execute changes within Paget’s organization quickly and seamlessly.”

Brightstar Alliance

Sprint is also said to be deploying Fared Adib, currently vice president of product development, to a Silicon Valley-based job that will involve heading up an alliance with Brightstar. Brightstar, based in Florida, is one of the world’s largest distributors of mobile devices. Brightstar and Softbank have reportedly created a new entity to streamline device buying and cut costs.

David Owens, who currently oversees consumer acquisition for Sprint, is expected to take over Adib’s job as vice president of product development.
