Intel has picked its new CEO, and T-Mobile USA has completed its merger with MetroPCS.
Today’s Mobile Minute:
- T-Mobile USA and MetroPCS are now one company. Their merger was completed yesterday and the merged company is trading on the NASDAQ stock exchange. The symbol is TMUS and at last check the stock was trading just under $17 a share. The name of the merged company is still T-Mobile and its now 74% owned by Germany’s Deutsche Telekom. Until now DT owned all of T-Mobile
- Intel has named Brian Krzanich as its new CEO – he replaces Paul Otellini who announced earlier this year that he’s ready to retire. Krzanich is Intel’s Chief Operating Officer, he has been with the company for 31 years. So Intel has continued its longstanding practice of promoting from within. A lot of people thought that for once the company might look outside Intel for a new CEO – the firm even hired executive search firm Spencer Stuart to help with the search.
- Intel of course is the world’s largest chipmaker. It’s had some tough quarters recently due to the slowdown in the PC market but it’s moving quickly to create chipsets for mobile devices.
