SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Motorola Solutions Inc. (MSI) is expanding its portfolio of services and applications for the enterprise and government sectors. Around $2 billion, or 25% of the company’s total revenue, comes from services and it expects to see more growth in that area as customers clamor for greater integration of equipment and services from multiple vendors and service providers.
By expanding its team in-house and through partners, the company plans to offer more consulting, operations and hosting to public safety and private enterprises.
“Government and enterprise mission-critical applications have a high return on investment,” CEO Greg Brown told a group of journalists here at its headquarters.
With a history that goes back more than 80 years, the company wants to position itself for the next frontier in advanced services and effectively maintain its leadership position in several areas. Traditional services are expanding to more innovative and advanced services, Brown said.
Around 6,000 of the company’s 25,000 employees worldwide are working on services. That group will grow as the company brings 400 new jobs to the Chicago area by the end of next year.
With more companies outsourcing operations, IT management and communications systems, the timing is perfect for Motorola Solutions to expand its services business, said Bruce Brda, who is leading the services unit.
