Global Tower Partners said it acquired 130 towers from Cricket Communications Inc. (LEAP) in a deal that closed earlier today. As is standard between independent tower owners and wireless operators, Cricket will remain a tenant on the towers.
“We have had a long standing partnership with Cricket that we are proud of and this transaction represents another milestone in that relationship,” said Marc C. Ganzi, CEO, Global Tower Partners. “We are also very excited about the prospects of growth on this unique set of urban tower assets and the ability to supplement our presence in California, Arizona and Colorado, where many of these towers are located.”
The deal should allow Cricket to focus on its customer-facing operations and give GTP the opportunity to add tenants to the tower. The purchase price was not disclosed.
“These locations will allow us to better serve our customers on the West Coast, especially in the urban core, as they continue to further build out their 4G networks. GTP owns or master leases more than 13,000 sites, including 3,800 owned towers throughout the United States.
