UPDATED: Verizon Wireless’ (VZ) super-speedy LTE network ground to a halt this morning as the carrier acknowledged on its Twitter page that the service was experiencing “an issue.” The carrier added that its engineers were working to solve the problem.
Word of the network issues began circulating around the Internet earlier today with a number of tech sites posting comments from users experiencing technical difficulties.
This afternoon, Verizon Wireless updated the situation again through its Twitter page, noting it was working with its vendors to “restore connections.”
The carrier also noted that the LTE-equipped HTC Corp. Thunderbolt devices were able to make voice calls, which run over the carrier’s CDMA network, but were experiencing slower CDMA data speeds. The Thunderbolt, which is currently the only smartphone compatible with the LTE service, includes both a CDMA and LTE chipset providing for voice traffic over the carrier’s CDMA2000 1x network, and data services across its 1x EV-DO Revision A service and LTE network where available.
Verizon Wireless launched the completely new LTE network late last year running across its 700 MHz spectrum holdings.
