Genband, developer of IP infrastructure and application solutions, announced the official opening of registration for the GENFuzion Developers Challenge, with entries submitted between April 15th, 2011 and July 15, 2011. As a contest within the GENFuzion Developer Community, the Developers Challenge recognizes and financially rewards the most innovative developers who leverage the open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) of GENBAND’s A2 Application Server. Winners will be announced August 19, 2011. The newly formed GENFuzion Developer Community and Developer Challenge provide a means for third party developers to access the A2 open APIs, provide “Sandbox” testing for their applications and create a collaborative discussion forum.

Singapore and Malaysia announced that they have successfully concluded discussions to progressively reduce bilateral roaming rates. The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has worked closely with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the mobile operators in Singapore to bring about these reduced roaming rates. From 1 May 2011, Singapore and Malaysia mobile phone subscribers will see price reductions of up to 30 per cent for voice calls and 50 per cent for SMSes, when they use the mobile roaming service provided by all mobile operators in Malaysia and Singapore respectively. SK Telecom held a 4G LTE network demonstration for the first time in Korea at its Bundang Building’s LTE Test-bed to showcase its leading technological expertise based on which the company will introduce innovative LTE services in July 2011. At the 4G LTE network demonstration, the company compared speeds of 4G LTE and 3G WCDMA; showcased LTE-based 3D video streaming and high definition video content download/ streaming; and demonstrated high definition video call between two handsets, one located in a moving bus and the other in the Bundang Building. The FCC created rules last fall to make unused television channels operate a new long-range version of Wi-Fi that spreads through walls. This led to collaboration between wireless communications researchers at Rice University in Houston and nonprofit Technology for All (TFA) to provide wireless Internet access to underserved communities through their TVs.
