Marriott to leave MMA

The mobile marketing industry lost one of its most prolific and outspoken supporters today when Laura Marriott announced she would resign from her post as president of the Mobile Marketing Association.
Marriott led the MMA since 2005 and watched its membership base grow as it established global headquarters and regional chapters in Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa, North American and Latin America.
Marriott didn’t give an immediate reason for her departure, yet Tom Daly, MMA’s North America chairman and group manager said, “We are disappointed to see her leave but support her in her goals to pursue personal interests.
“Having benefited from Laura’s leadership, the MMA is stronger than ever. Together with the board and our members, Laura has created a global association and positioned the MMA as the world’s leading trade association for mobile marketing and the source for best practices which protect the consumer experience.”
MMA has formed more than 20 committees to tackle areas of concern in participation TV, education, measurement, privacy, mobile advertising, women in wireless and more. Through the committees’ work, MMA has developed guidelines and best practices for companies to follow throughout the industry.
While MMA has a stronghold in the United States, the Mobile Entertainment Forum, its counterpart, has greater clout with members in Europe.
Marriott is one of the contributors to RCR Wireless News’ weekly column, Reality Check.
