DALLAS-Paging Network Inc. introduced a two-way messaging service it said will allow customers to receive and create e-mails and pages from one device.
The company also said it will create customized applications for large business customers that will enable workers to access the Internet and corporate intranets from the same device. The option is consistent with the company’s intention of being a full-service content provider as well as network operator.
The service employs Motorola Inc.’s PageWriter 2000 two-way pager, on which users can create customized messages, or choose from a list of replies included by the sender as well as one of several preprogrammed replies stored in the unit.
The service includes several other standard features, such as guaranteed messaging, where messages sent to the device will be stored for up to 72 hours if the pager has been turned off or is out of service range and then delivered once that pager is again available. Users also can choose voice mail, operator dispatch service and PC connectivity for address book and customized application downloading.
PageNet will offer several price packages, all of which are for nationwide coverage-the most basic being $25 a month for 8,000 message characters and the the most advanced at $130 a month for 60,000 characters. The device can be bought from PageNet for $360, with leasing options available.
