Ecuador ended November with 15.76 million mobile subscribers, of which prepaid and GSM mobile phones accounted for the largest portion, according to the Ecuadorian Superintendence of Telecommunications (Supertel).
The country’s prepaid base accounted for 13.35 million of users, while postpaid accounts numbered 2.41 million at the end of November. GSM-based devices accounted for 14.01 million subscribers, while UMTS (3G) devices totaled 1.47 million and CDMA users numbered 197,956 customers.
América Móvil’s Claro (Conecel) dominated market share in the country with 70.35% of total mobile connections, followed by Telefónica’s Movistar (Otecel) with 28.10% and Alegro (CNT EP) that accounted for only 1.55%.
Claro accounted for 1.269 million UMTS connections at the end of November, of which 426,264 were prepaid and 842,976 postpaid, while Movistar counted 240,833 UMTS subscribers, with 67,647 prepaid and 137,186 postpaid.
