Brazil’s Algar Telecom, a division of the Algar Group that operates the CTBC brand, launched wired Internet services providing data speeds up to 100 megabits per second and unveiled a high-definition pay-TV service. The move was part of Algar’s attempt to diversify its product offerings.
The Internet service will be available via hybrid fiber-coaxial, a broadband network that combines optical fiber and coaxial cable.

The Internet service will initially be offered in portions of Uberlândia, a city in the Minas Gerais state, and a central region where several residential condominiums are located. Algar Telecom will also provide packages combining telephony, Internet broadband and pay TV.
The company plans to expand the service in early 2012 to Uberaba.
