Virgin Mobile USA Inc. said it has torn down the walls surrounding its mobile Web browser, allowing users with third-generation handsets to freely surf the Internet.
The operator said subscribers can access the entire Internet from 3G phones including the Audiovox Flasher V7 and the Kyocera K10 Royale by using Google’s search engine. Virgin Mobile USA said more 3G handsets are slated for release later this year.
Virgin Mobile USA’s mobile Web also will include rotating links to sites offering sports news and local nightlife information.
Most U.S. operators allow users to surf the Internet beyond pre-selected Web pages on the carrier deck, although accessing unsanctioned sites from a handset can be prohibitively cumbersome.
“We’ve unleashed the Web from the OC and pulled the walls down from around our mobile content, creating a rich portal full of music information, news, sports, entertainment and search capabilities that lets our users decide where the Web will take them,” said Howard Handler, chief marketing officer of Virgin Mobile USA.
