MetroPCS Communications Inc. posted limited third-quarter results, displaying strong growth and a year-over-year drop in customer churn. The carrier reported 249,265 net additions during the quarter, nearly double the 114,302 customers the carrier added during the same quarter last year. MetroPCS ended the third quarter with 4.8 million subscribers. During the past year, the carrier said it has added 1.2 million subscribers to its network.
Customer churn dipped from 5.2% during the third quarter of 2007 to 4.8% this year, though churn inched up from the 4.5% posted during the second quarter.
Despite struggles across most telecom segments, MetroPCS’ stock was up slightly this morning at around $14.67 per share.
In a separate announcement MetroPCS said it will hand over some of its managing services to Amdocs Ltd. The two companies signed a six-year agreement stating that MetroPCS will license billing, operation support systems and customer care products from Amdocs.
MetroPCS last week signed a roaming agreement with rival Leap Wireless International Inc. Details of the agreement was not disclosed, but MetroPCS showed its enthusiasm about the agreement inside its third-quarter results.
“We are excited about the growth potential with our recently signed roaming agreement with Leap Wireless that effectively creates super regional coverage clusters across the country, and from our planned service launches in Boston and New York,” said MetroPCS’ Chairman, President and CEO Roger Linquist.
