SYDNEY, Australia-Telstra Corp. launched its Telstra Iterra Digital satellite communications service in Australia, which will provide businesses with communications in the remote regions of the country.
To activate Iterra Digital, Telstra will set up a 1.8 meter satellite dish at remote sites for phone, fax and data connection to most anywhere in the world, said the company.
“Iterra Digital is capable of integrating with Telstra’s public switched telephone network,” said Daryll Smith, Telstra Mobile Satellite & Radio Services’ general manager. He noted that Iterra Digital will provide Integrated Services Digital Network and Internet and switched data functionality in the future.
Telstra said users will benefit from low start up costs, economical operation, versatile network options and high levels of network support with the new service.
The company recently completed construction of its multimillion dollar network management center and Telstra Perth land earth station, said Smith. The NMC allows for cost-effective deployment of the Demand Assigned Multiple Access technology. For the duration of a call or one data transmission, DAMA selects a channel from a pool of channels, based on availability in that channel. It uses a satellite channel only when necessary to complete a call.
