BearCom Inc. acquired Fidelcomm Service Co., a two-way radio equipment dealer serving the greater Los Angeles area, said BearCom. The dealership, which has been in business since 1988, will assume the BearCom name.
Brightpoint Inc. agreed to sell Merrill Lynch & Co. $335 million aggregate principal amount at maturity of the company’s liquid yield option notes due 2018 for $452.89 per each $1,000 of face amount of LYONS, or the offering price, said Brightpoint. Brightpoint expects the transaction to generate gross proceeds of about $151.7 million, which it plans to use to reduce the amounts outstanding under its existing revolving credit facility. The transaction is scheduled to close this week. Brightpoint can redeem the LYONs in cash any time on or after March 11, 2003.
Cellular South selected Saville Systems’ Convergent Billing Platform for Oracle to help it provide packages of telecom products and services, said Saville. Saville’s system will allow Cellular South to enhance its existing convergent capabilities, making it easier to create and bill for packages of cellular, residential and long-distance services under Cellular South’s Telepak product. Telepak allows customers to mix and match telecom services to create cost-effective packages, said the company.
Glenayre Technologies Inc. said it performed the first interoperator transmission of European Radio Messaging System paging messages on commercial networks. The demonstration at Paging ’98 in Nice, France-the annual congress of the European Public Paging Association-showed the capability of Glenayre’s infrastructure to provide inter-country roaming using the ERMES protocol. “It’s an important step in making Pan-European roaming a reality,” said Jacques Couvas, Glenayre’s group vice president and managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
