WASHINGTON-The Federal Communications Commission is not likely to authorize the
scanning/jamming devices that recently were approved in Japan.
“We would not authorize knowingly any
transmitter that interfered with another service,” said an FCC official who declined to be identified.
Japan
recently began allowing entities to apply for jamming devices to shut out the noise of wireless devices. These devices
are expected to be popular in places like concert halls and theaters. The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in
Japan began accepting applications after a three-month test conducted last year. The MPT will allow theaters and
concert/lecture halls to use the devices, but will not allow schools, libraries, museums, hospitals, trains, hotels and
restaurants to use them.
