WASHINGTON-As further evidence that Sprint PCS has fully taken over operation of and responsibility for Sprint Spectrum, the Federal Communications Commission last month canceled a request from Sprint Spectrum regarding ownership.
Sprint Spectrum originally requested that it “be allowed to indirectly hold common carrier licenses so long as the levels of foreign equity and voting interest in each Sprint Spectrum partner was no greater than the amount permitted for each general partner individually,” said the FCC in the order.
This request was no longer necessary when the FCC transferred control of the Sprint licenses from Sprint Spectrum’s three other partners to Sprint PCS. “In light of the ownership structure of Sprint PCS, we find that there is no longer a need for clarification concerning the prior ownership structure of Sprint PCS,” said the FCC in its March 26 order. The transfer of control was granted on Aug. 31.
