NEW YORK-According to the International Executive Demand Index, released by Korn/Ferry International, global executive demand in 1999 jumped 16 percent from the previous year.
“The boom in advanced technology is driving executive demand in the dot-com and telecommunications sectors,” said James Boone, president of the Americas for Korn/Ferry. “This is the first time in the history of the Executive Demand index that the technology, dot-com and telecommunications sector owned the greatest share of executive demand in North America with 20 percent.”
Including all industries, Latin America made the largest overall industry year-to-year gain, climbing 30 percent. Asia-Pacific rose 24 percent, with North America up 17 percent. European executive demand was up 8 percent, according to the report.
“The snapshot of European demand at year-end 1999 confirms an economy increasingly driven by technology,” noted Michael Bekins, president of Korn/Ferry in Europe. “Electronics, computers, software, dot-coms, communications and telecommunications companies are capturing a sizable share of the international market, with their highly sophisticated products.”
