Everypath Inc, a wireless application services provider and technology enabler, collected $60 million in series C financing, bringing the total amount raised to $76 million. Amerindo Investments led the funding. Other investors include Ignition Corp., E*Trade, Raza Ventures, Texas Pacific Group, Redwood Ventures, Robertson Stephens, Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown.
Comtech Telecommunications Corp. announced its Maryland subsidiary, Comtech Mobile Datacom Corp., received $3.1 million in orders from the U.S. Army for equipment associated with the Movement Tracking System program. The orders include satellite tracking and messaging equipment for more than 460 Army logistics vehicles and mobile control stations. Delivery of the units to Fort Hood will begin in September. With this order, the Army is taking the first step in what could eventually become an Army-wide deployment of Comtech’s messaging and location tracking MTS system, Comtech said.
Neomar Inc. announced it has raised $7 million in first-round financing from such firms as Research In Motion Ltd. and 724 Solutions Inc. Neomar has created a WAP browser and portal designed to deliver WAP-based enterprise applications to wirelessly enabled personal digital assistants. Both 724 and RIM have licensed Neomar’s technology. In addition, 724’s chief executive officer, Greg Wolfond, has joined Neomar’s board of directors.
SBC Communications Inc. agreed to sell its wireless properties in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La., to Alltel Corp. SBC acquired the markets through its purchase of Radiofone Inc. SBC said the sale, covering approximately 2 million potential customers, resolves spectrum cap and antitrust issues created in the markets as a result of its proposed merger with BellSouth Corp. The transaction is expected to close later this year and is conditional upon the close of the SBC-BellSouth joint venture.
Metricom Inc. launched its Ricochet high-speed fixed wireless network in Atlanta, the company announced. Ricochet offers notebook computer users wireless data access speeds up to 128 kilobits per second from anywhere within the network. Metricom launched its first market July 21 in San Diego and plans to launch more markets nationwide in late September.
