T-Systems, DT’s enterprise group, will provide IoT services to manufacturing interest Kaeser Kompressoren
Germany is a leader in the digital transformation of the manufacturing sector, a combination of federal investment by way of the Industrie 4.0 initiative and the key role manufacturing plays in the country’s economy. This emphasis on the lucrative vertical has also drawn major interest from telecom companies and vendors. Case in point, T-Systems, the enterprise group of Deutsche Telekom, is providing SIM cards and sensors to 400 technical service cases that Kaeser Kompressoren, a manufacturer of compressed air systems, technicians use for their daily operations.
Kaeser technicians hook up the measuring equipment to machines for a period of at least 10 days in order to gather a detailed picture of the customer’s actual compressed air requirements and compressor utilization levels. “The result was that some carrying cases were difficult to pinpoint or had gone missing altogether,” said Oliver Pschirrer, head of technical service at Kaeser Kompressoren. “The losses were very costly for us and the cases difficult to replace.”
With the new deal, every carrying case sends information on its current location to the IoT platform operated by Deutsche Telekom subsidiary T-Systems at one of its data centers in Germany.
The IoT platform also enables Kaeser to monitor the cases’ battery status to ensure only ones with fully charged measuring equipment are used.
]T-Systems is also supplying security services as part of the deal; the financial details were not disclosed.
“Together with Kaeser we are demonstrating just how quickly and easily digitization can become a reality in industry. The connected carrying cases simplify the daily work of sales and service staff and save costs in addition,” Anette Bronder, Director at T-Systems and responsible for Deutsche Telekom’s digital business, said.
In the future, Kaeser and T-Systems intend to expand the IoT service by connecting individual machines with cloud services.
T-Systems offers a range of integrated solutions for business customers, including the secure operation of legacy systems and classic ICT services, the transformation to cloud-based services (including tailored infrastructure, platforms and software) as well as new business models and innovation projects such as data analytics, the Internet of Things, machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and Industrial Internet.
